Should You Clean Screens Every Time You Clean Windows?
Written by Blue Ribbon Window Cleaning · Last updated May 14, 2026
Not always. Screens build up slower than glass, so cleaning them every other visit is usually enough — unless you live near open fields, vineyards, or have heavy spring pollen.
When to clean screens every visit
- Home borders open land, trails, or new construction.
- Heavy spring pollen and someone in the home has allergies.
- Sprinklers spray the screens directly.
- Pre-listing or pre-photo cleaning where everything has to look perfect.
When you can skip a round
If you cleaned screens 6 months ago, the home is in a tight tract neighborhood, and you don't see any visible gray haze on the mesh, it's reasonable to skip screen cleaning on this visit and do them next time. We'll always tell you honestly when they don't need it yet.
What happens if you wait too long
Old, never-cleaned screens get brittle from the SoCal sun. Once a screen rots in the frame, cleaning isn't an option — it has to be rescreened. Annual cleaning is the cheapest way to make screens last 8–10+ years.

Frequently asked questions
› Is screen cleaning a separate fee?
It's included in interior + exterior service. For exterior-only, it's an add-on.
› What if I don't have screens?
Many newer Temecula homes have removed screens for a cleaner exterior look. No problem — we just clean glass.
› Can old screens be saved?
If the frame is straight and the mesh isn't crumbling, yes. If the mesh tears when touched, the screen needs to be rescreened.
