Slider tracks are basically a small channel that catches everything the wind blows in. Once that grit packs in, it grinds against the rollers and weatherstripping every time the window opens. Over years that wears out the slide and ruins the seal.
Why sills make windows look dirty again
Sills accumulate pollen and dust that falls off the screen. Even when glass is freshly cleaned, the next breeze carries that sill debris back onto the wet glass. Wiping sills as part of the visit prevents that re-deposit.
What proper track and sill cleaning looks like
- Vacuum or brush out heavy debris first.
- Wipe the channel with a damp microfiber.
- Detail corners with a small brush.
- Wipe the sill clean and dry.
- Reseat the screen so no gap traps new debris.
